As we already know, using a cell phone while driving is illegal and considered a negligent act. And clearly, this has its reason for being due to the risks involved in doing both at the same time.
We want to remind you of these risks in today’s blog, to continue raising awareness about what can happen if you decide to use both or, for example, if you have an accident because of someone who was using it while driving.
- The first risk, which we have discussed on different occasions and is the most obvious, is the great distraction that seeing messages or social networks represents. By being distracted and not looking at the road, the chance that you won’t see another car or an obstacle in the road is much higher because you’re not even paying attention to your surroundings, but to your phone.
- The second, although it has a bit to do with what we mentioned above, is the little ability it will have to maneuver and especially the time it will have to do so. Since when you are using the cell phone, you will have one of your hands occupied and on the other hand, it may be that when you realize the danger you are running, it will be too late to make a maneuver that frees you from the impact.
- Due to the distraction caused by whatever topic you are viewing on your cell phone, your brain’s reaction time in an emergency is much longer than it would be if you had been concentrating on driving, which as we mentioned, it may cause me to act too late to avoid an accident.
- The cell phone not only affects your visual abilities, but also your physical and cognitive ones, so simply by using it, the percentage of risk of having an accident increases considerably.
We want to remind you that any message or call can wait, and although the cell phone is a great tool for our day to day and allows us to stay in touch with our loved ones or with matters related to work.
